Ferrari Reveals F60 F1 Car
Richard | January 12, 2009
Ferrari became the first team to unveil their 2009 car on Monday morning when Felipe Massa took the new-look F60 for a spin at the Mugello track in Italy.
The car – named as a way of celebrating the fact that Ferrari are the only team to have competed in each of the 60 years of the Formula One world championship – provides a glimpse of the look that will dominate a season that heralds the biggest Formula One rule changes in 25 years.
Although not to all purists’ liking, the changes are designed to increase overtaking and, by extension, spectators’ enjoyment of a sport many feel has become a procession in recent years.
The F60 is dominated by a wide front wing and a tall, narrow rear wing; it sees the reintroduction of slick, unthreaded tyres for the first time in 10 years; most controversially of all, it incorporates the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) which is optional this season.
