COMPUTERWORLD Gamers take note. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. is launching its highly anticipated online 3-D virtual world for PlayStation 3 users today.

After a year-long delay, the open beta of PlayStation Home is finally going live. The 3-D social network, which also is being called a gaming community, is designed to enable users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences, according to Sony.

Available as a free download, the virtual gaming world will launch directly from the PlayStation Home icon on the PlayStation Network column on the PS3. Users will be able to create their own avatars and communicate with other users using voice or text.

Verbarius is the first clock in the world that tells time the way people do. It has five preloaded languages: English, German, Spanish, French and Russian. You can easily upload any additional language you like—from Latin to Eskimoan—using the USB port.

The clock spells out time differently every minute. It’s either forty-five minutes past four, or fifteen minutes to five, or four forty-five, or a quarter to five.

Pixelnotes cover a wall in 5 layers of tiny perforated square notes. Each layer of notes are colored a different shade of grey while the deepest layer is a bright primary color such as red. The notes have an adhesive top similar to Post-it Notes.

If you ever need a piece of paper to jot something down you can just go over and rip off a piece. The on-going usage of the notes will create a constantly changing display of color and shapes that could make your workplace a tad more enjoyable and functional than a plain wall.

Of course if you’re one of those people who actually spend their time at work doing actual work you might not even notice that there are walls in your office.
