LeWhif – Chocolate Inhaler

Richard | April 20, 2009

LeWhif Chocolate Inhaler

Le Whif is a revolutionary new way of eating chocolate – by breathing it! Imagine, chocolate without the calories. Be the first to try inhaled chocolate when Le Whif goes on sale later this month in four luscious flavors: mint chocolate, raspberry chocolate, mango chocolate, and plain chocolate.

LeWhif PackagingHarvard professor David Edwards, lead inventor of Le Whif, says: “Over the centuries we’ve been eating smaller and smaller quantities at shorter and shorter intervals. It seemed to us that eating was tending toward breathing, so, with a mix of culinary art and aerosol science, we’ve helped move eating habits to their logical conclusion. We call it whiffing.”

Le Whif is a terrific way to curb your appetite or to accompany a coffee, and Edwards says inhaled chocolate is just the beginning. New culinary innovations that involve eating by breathing are being developed by the Foodlab at Le Laboratoire, Edwards’ art and science innovation center in central Paris.

WiiSpray

During development in the Spring of 2007, Bauhaus University Media Department students Martin Lihs and Frank Matuse completed Prototype One, forming the groundwork for the WiiSpray. Upon consideration, Martin Lihs chose to further investigate this project for his Master Thesis, developing an entirely new Prototype, known today as WiiSpray 2nd edition. Complete with new ideas as to how the interface works, how the physical model appears, and a new 3 Dimensional interaction concept. The part of the software that allows Collaboration working is now in a betastatus.

Concord C1 QuantumGravity Watch Defies Laws of Physics

Richard | March 23, 2009

Concord C1 QuantumGravity

The Concord C1 QuantumGravity can counteract the forces of gravity thanks to 18th century technology that involves the escapement and balance wheel being mounted inside a rotating cage—but it appears that the mechanism also includes a “liquid featuring green phosphorescent nanoparticles” encased inside a vertical tube. Apparently, this fluid is used to indicate the power levels remaining in the 3-day reserve. To be perfectly honest, the press release describing the watch and its mechanisms is pretty damn convoluted (unless you are a master watchmaker), but it will undoubtedly prove popular when it is unveiled at the Baselworld 2009 show next week. [Gizmodo]

Concord C1 QuantumGravity

If you ask me, the press release reads like the MIR’s emergency manual – backwards. Anyway, if you can understand the watch holistically, you might still end up with not enough in your pockets to test your knowledge.

Jetlev Flyer – A Vision Becomes Reality

Max | March 16, 2009

Jetlev Flyer in action!

ITS A BIRD! ITS A PLANE!….. NO WAIT, IT’S BOB. It is with the utmost happiness that I am able to report on this amazing creation. Conceived by a Canadian, the Jetlev Flyer will let you fly over the water with childish ease. Powered by a 4-stroke engine varying in power from 155 to 215 HP allow you to reach speeds of up to 65 kph, reaching a height of 10 meters and fully puzzle anybody who witnesses you doing it.

Prices start at 99.000€ so your pocket must be deep. But really can we put a price on something James Bond would have in his closet? Think of it!

3D Eyetracking Cellphone Interface Looks Realistic

Richard | February 26, 2009

The concept, which gives traditionally flat interface elements a very convincing sense of depth and layering, relies on eyetracking and TAT’s in-house 3D engine, which renders in real time in the video.

It uses your eyes’ locations, along with the orientation of the device, as part of the perspective equation that creates a convincing 3D effect.

Palm Announces New ‘Pre’ Smartphone

Richard | January 11, 2009

One of the major stories coming out of CES is the revival of Palm with the release of the Palm Pre, the first smartphone to be based on their new webOS platform. The Pre, currently planned for a US release on Sprint sometime in the first half of this year, contains a 3.1-inch, 320×480 touch screen, 8 GB of memory, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 3-megapixel camera with flash, built-in GPS, an accelerometer, and Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Pre represents a break from Palm’s existing Palm OS and will be unable to run existing Palm OS applications. Instead, Pre developers will develop using browser technologies including CSS, HTML and XML along with special APIs to access the hardware features of the new device. And of course, an “App Store” for third-party applications will also be accessible from the phone.

Microsoft Shocks With Songsmith

Richard | January 10, 2009

Have you ever wished to find yourself singing like a famous pop-idol? No? Probably, because you think you just can’t do it. And you’re probably right. If you have the guts to accept that, there is no need to download Microsoft Research’s newest super-duper-mega-heist: Songsmith.

After more than a year, 8 billion (!) dollars and at least a kilo of the worst crack cocaine, Microsoft came up with an application that is – at most – somewhat new to the market. Songsmith gives you fiddlers out there the chance to sing whatever you dream of and constructs a cluster around it which is supposed to be music. OK, let’s be fair. The idea is pretty neat. And if Apple came up with it in the latest release of Garageband, everybody would have loved it.
