NEW YORK TIMES | A US Airways jetliner with 155 people aboard lost power in both engines, possibly from striking birds, after taking off from La Guardia Airport on Thursday afternoon. The pilot ditched in the icy Hudson River and all on board were rescued by a flotilla of converging ferries and emergency boats, the authorities said.

What might have been a catastrophe in New York — one that evoked the feel if not the scale of the Sept. 11 attack — was averted by a pilot’s quick thinking and deft maneuvers, and by the nearness of rescue boats, a combination that witnesses and officials called miraculous.

The former drummer of band Blink 182 was in critical condition after the private jet he took plunged to the ground when departing from a South Carolina airport in the early hours of Saturday, September 20. The accident left another injuried and killed four. Travis Barker is now treated at a burn center in Augusta, Georgia.

According to the reports, Barker had performed Friday night at an event alongside Perry Farrell, the former Jane’s Addiction singer, as well as Gavin DeGraw and DJ AM. Hospital officials confirmed that DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Michael Goldstein, had also been admitted to the burn unit in critical condition. It was unknown whether Farrell and DeGraw were also traveling with Barker.
